Sticky Rice (You-Fan) | 油飯

Sticky rice is a dish which you can find in many Taiwanese households. This is one of my personal favorites.

Ingredients:

* Grandma uses the type of measuring cup that comes with a rice cooker, usually designed in the metric system. I just looked it up, 1 rice cup is equivalent of 3/4 cup.
  • 3 rice cups* of glutinous rice
  • 3 rice cups* of water
  • ~1.5 cups of of sliced shiitake mushroom
  • 1 cup of pork cubes
  • A dash of salt
  • 4 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 2 tea spoons of white pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • A dash of small dried shrimp
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 whole onion, chopped

Directions:

  • Heat the pan on medium heat. Add oil, dried shrimp, garlic, and onions (pre-fried). Stir.
  • Add pork, sticky rice, salt, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and pour everything into a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  • Add water into the bowl. Add pepper. Cover.
  • Microwave for 10 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce to taste. Stir.
  • Microwave for 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave for another 3 minutes.
  • Set aside for 3 minutes. Serve.
That's it. Enjoy!
